There was totally controlled mayhem in the bungalow a few nights ago. Our main living area was invaded on invitation by what seemed like all the children of the village because of two people - Ali and Tony Haggett.
Ali and Tony run a couple of day care centres in Alice Springs, Australia, but decided to get some more diving experience and a proper holiday so came to Koh Rong Samloem. They wanted to bring something to the island and having spoken with the guys here in Cambodia the most useful items would be clothes for the children. When we first saw the boxes, it seems like they must have got the whole of Alice Springs to donate the clothes their own children had grown out of for there were piles of them! Dresses, shirts, trousers and skirts and most importantly (for the boys at least) sunglasses!
They discussed with the chief the best way to make sure everyone got something and so it was decided that, in place of an English lesson, in the evening there would be a Clothes Show. Tony and Ali, with much help from Samnang and Ma Dot managed to find something for everyone from the babies to the teens, and when Simon pulled out the sunglasses there was nearly a riot!
All our thanks to the people of Alice Springs for their generous donations and to Tony and Ali for their efforts that evening and on the whole project so far. Everyone had a blast and it's now quite odd seeing some of the kids walking round the village in their Ralf Loren tops!!
