Regular Patrols PDF Print E-mail

We would like to offer a big thank you to Scott Lucas.

Scott Lucas donation enables three patrols per day Scott, who has made it possible to run 3 patrols per day for the next month. As the Sihanoukville Fisherises Catonement can not provide regular assistance in patrols, Scotts donation will cover the fuel costs for 3 patrols per day for the next month, allowing the community to stop the many illegal activities that go on within its community fishing area and its conservation area.

Each patrol is run by the community rangers and each event is recorded and logged for legal purposes.

The need for regular patrols has been very much needed as over the past few months all but three of the marker bouys set out to mark the conservation area have been moved or stolen.

Over the first two days of patrols, four illegal boats were asked to leave the area. Two vietnamese vessels, one Sihanoukville vessel and a expatriate owned tourist fishing vessel that had dropped its anchor in the middle of the main reef. Each patrol has a camara so that photographic evidence is also recorded. Here are the first pictures, We have excluded the tourist boat photo's for now. Hopefully they will act in a more reponsible way in future.
