The community on Koh Rong Samloem has Worked hard over the past two years to protect and manage its marine resources, this has attracted the attention of other concerned organisations which has in turn lead to the involvement of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation including the community within its current coastal activities in Cambodia. Late last month a field trip was arranged to look at the current conservation efforts and address alternative livelihood opportunities.
The community showed its clear understanding of conservation and disscussed its needs and the problems it has and is facing in regards to patrolling and conservation of its CFi area. The Community also decided upon 3 new areas to be designated as conservation areas, this will be implemented over the coming months. With participation from community members, provincial police, the Royal Cambodian Navy,Fisheries Administration and the UN FAO representatives the discussions went very well ant the community now has a renewed enthusiasm to continue its sustainable management of the area.
The alternative livelihood meetings also went well with ideas on agriculture and livestock being high on the list of ideas together with adaption of community based ecotourism to complement their existing efforts.

This is a great new development and has increased the desire of the community to be involved in all aspects of sustainable management within its CFi area and also to increase the results of co-management between itself and the FiA.
A very big thank you to all those involved in making this happen.
